The practice village
(Practicing in community)
A 3-Session Practice Group for Mothers in real space!
*A note about the word mother: I use it expansively. This space is for anyone who feels connected to the waters of mothering. I have zero interest in gatekeeping who belongs here. The whole point is to practice making spaces where more people—not fewer—can exhale. This isn't therapy.
It's not a support group in the traditional sense.
It's definitely not a place where someone stands at the front of the room pretending to have all the answers.
It's a place to practice.
Practice being seen.
Practice witnessing someone else.
Practice letting yourself take up a little space.
Practice staying with the uncomfortable thing instead of immediately trying to fix it.
Practice remembering that you're a person, too.
Think of it as a rehearsal space (I am also an actor after all).
We'll move a little.
We might sing.
We might journal and ponder and reflect.
We'll definitely laugh.
We'll borrow from somatics, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and whatever else helps us choose curiousity over self judgement.
I'm interested in what happens when we stop going around our experience and start going through it.
Feeling without instead of suffering within. What shifts in our nervous systems when we don't have to do it alone? When we practice in community?
My hope isn't that you leave "transformed" or “regulated”.
I hope you leave a tiny bit more porous than when you arrived.
A little less braced.
A little more connected to your body.
A little more able to laugh at the absolute absurdity of motherhood.
Because while much of the world is busy optimizing us, isolating us, making everything faster, smaller, and more separate...
Let's practice the opposite.
Let's practice slowing down.
Let's practice being together.
Let's practice giggling with snacks and colluding in the revolution.
WHAT TO BRING:Bring your favorite snack if it pleases you - Open it whenever you want. Offer some to your neighbor.
A journal and a pen- in case you need/want to write anything down
Something you can move/shake in - you’re not coming to dance class but you certainly don’t want to feel restricted!
Session 1: Practicing Arriving
"Can I let myself be here without performing?"
Working on showing up where we are, not where we want to be.
Practice:
Nervous system settling
Learning names
Witnessing without responding
Beginning to trust the container
Session 2: Practicing Staying
"What happens when discomfort shows up and I don't immediately leave myself?"
Utilizing Somatics and IFS.
Practice:
Meeting a protective part
Feeling through instead of around
Co-regulation
Receiving support instead of only offering it
Session 3: Practicing Village
"How do we take this beyond this room?"
Less about closure and more about weaving.
Practice:
Asking for something small
Offering something small
Naming what each person brings to community
Creating tiny commitments to continue practicing villaging outside the group
